Introduction to The Time Travelers
In Time Travelers, students meet women in California’s history who broke barriers in the battle for equality. The book is historically correct and imaginatively written to capture the attention of children in grades 4 through 9. The book’s stories and profiles are designed to be integrated into California history lesson plans in general or, more specifically, used for special events such as California History Day and Women’s History Month.
The authors are well-respected figures from media, legislative and state government agency backgrounds. Their book features forward-thinking and courageous women who did not let the color of their skin, gender, or circumstances of their position in society stop them from fighting for economic, political, educational, environmental and/or cultural equality.
Students will find inspiration in these stories that will take them beyond the standard lessons of California’s missions and The Gold Rush. They will also relate to the diversity of the women in the stories.
Time Travelers is made possible by a grant from former Secretary of State March Fong Eu.
